Saying “Enough, Enough”, US President Joe Biden called on Congress to stop offensive weapons, expand past controls and implement other control measures to address a series of mass shootings that have taken place in the United States. United.

“For God’s sake, how many more massacres should take place?” Biden asked.

“I could not help but think that there are many other schools, many other places that have become killing fields, battlefields, here in America,” he said.
The Democratic president called for a series of measures that have been opposed by Republicans in Congress, including banning the sale of offensive weapons and high-capacity cartridges, or, if possible, raising the minimum age for buying weapons from 18 at 21 years old.
He also demanded that the manufacturers of weapons could not be protected from lawsuits if citizens commit violent acts with the weapons of these manufacturers.
“We can not disappoint the American people again,” Biden said, urging Republicans, especially in the US Senate, to allow gun control bills to be put to a vote.
The US president said that if Congress does not act, the American people will make the gun issue a central theme in the November midterm elections.
The National Rifle Association, the most powerful gun lobby in the US, said in a statement that Biden’s proposals would violate the rights of law-abiding gun owners.
“This is not a real solution, this is not real leadership and this is not what America needs,” he said.
The US has a higher rate of firearm deaths than any other state. Most recently, ten African-Americans were killed in a mass shooting at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York, 19 children and two teachers were killed in Texas, and two doctors, a receptionist, and a patient were killed in Oklahoma.
Lawmakers are looking at measures to expand past controls and pass laws that would allow security officials to remove guns from people suffering from mental illness. But any new move will face Republican opposition, especially in the Senate, and the proposal to ban assault weapons does not have the proper support to pass.
The Second Amendment to the US Constitution protects the right of citizens to bear arms. But Biden said the amendment was not “absolute”, adding that the new measures he supports are not intended to deprive citizens of weapons.
More than 18,000 people have died from gun violence in the U.S. this year, including homicides and suicides, the Gun Violence Archive said.
Canada, Australia and Britain have passed tougher laws as massive shootings have taken place in these countries, including a ban on assault weapons.
