Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha considers the reaction of the Russian embassy in Tirana a provocation, regarding his statement that he had been offered big offers by Gazprom to sabotage the TAP project in our country.
Through a Facebook post, Berisha writes that the reaction of the Russian embassy is Soviet-style, while he calls Russian diplomats representatives of dictator Putin.
“Regarding my statement yesterday about the corrupt efforts of Gazprom near me to sabotage TAP, the Russian embassy in Tirana reacted today by asking: How much money did Mr. Berisha ask for that Gazprom could not collect?“, Writes Berisha.
Berisha says Gazprom and the Russian government did what they could and used all their corrupt gas lines to block the TAP project.
“In the first week of August 2011, a friend of mine, a well-known Turkish businessman, brought me the following message from the president of Gazprom: in case I would give up the TAP project and support the ITGI project, which bypassed Albania and crossed the Turkey-Greece-Italy trajectory and which was supplied mainly with Russian gas but also the Russian side offered:
-construction of an Igumenice-Vlora gas pipeline with the possibility of extension to Shkodra.
-Investment of 4.1 billion dollars in large gas power plants in Seman.
-These would be decided in a meeting that would take place between me and the president of Gazprom.
The offer was rejected outright for political reasons on my part. “I did not accept Gasprom’s investments because I believed in them, and time has given me the right, because they were not in the interest of my country.”
The Russian Embassy in Albania reacted this Friday regarding the statement of the former Prime Minister Sali Berisha that “10 years ago he rejected the bribe offered by Gazprom for the development of energy projects in Albania”.
“We were surprised by Sali Berisha’s words that 10 years ago he refused the bribe allegedly proposed by Gazprom for the development of energy projects in Albania. The question naturally arises: how much did Mr. Berisha ask that even Gazprom could not collect those “fabulous amounts” “, writes the Russian embassy on Twitter.
Asked by Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu, Berisha spoke of a dizzying offer from the Russian gas company Gazprom at the time.
“I want to say a message to those who declared Sali Berisha non grata. I tell the Goerge Soros mafia that only for TAP Berisha has been offered much more fabulous, but he stood in defense of the interests of his people“, Said Berisha.
Sali Berisha used the news about the amount of 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan that has entered Europe, of which approximately 8.5 were delivered to Italy, to show his role when he was prime minister.
“This is the first gas pipeline in Europe without Russian gas. Albania and the government I headed played a decisive role. To be clear, Albania’s defining role could be TAP only if it passed through the territory of Albania, a territory where Russian gas could not passHe said.
Such news was also welcomed by President Ilir Meta.
Recall that 10 billion cubic meters is a symbolic achievement at the moment, but TAP can double capacity by expanding in several phases, up to 20 billion cubic meters within 45-65 months, the statement said. Through the exit points in Greece, Albania and Italy, the opportunity is offered for the transport of gas from Azerbaijan to the largest European markets.
