The British Embassy in Tirana reacted after the declaration non grata of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
On its Facebook page, a statement from the head of this diplomatic mission, Alastair King-Smith, is forwarded, which hints at the position that London is not specifically targeting the veteran politician.
The ambassador’s comments, in fact, clearly refer to the measures taken by the British government against some citizens related to crime and corruption, and this, as he told an Albanian media, is only the first wave.
“I want to assure the Albanian public that we have not targeted any political party, political group or any other group. This is a well-balanced approach. This approach targets individuals and their very clear links to crime and corruption. The approach also takes into account on a case-by-case basis whether individuals contribute to the UK public good.” said Alastair King-Smith, the British ambassador to Albania.
The former prime minister himself announced today that he was declared non-grata by Great Britain with the claim of links to organized crime groups.
England thus becomes the second country after the United States of America to declare Sali Berisha undesirable.
