An attempt by several people to climb the stairs to the second floor, on a balcony on the left side, was repulsed by several people from inside the building. One of the protesters was wounded in the head. Other efforts have also been thwarted, with tear gas being used from inside the headquarters.
Using the stairs, Mr. Berisha’s supporters tried to enter the upper floors, using solid objects and stones that broke the windows. An armored door on the right side of the building was managed to open.
In a statement to the media, the Democratic Party demanded the intervention of the State Police in their defense, arguing that Sali Berisha is endangering the lives of dozens of Democrats with acts of violence today. On the other hand, the State Police responded to the call for help of a group of PD deputies, announcing that they will immediately intervene against the organizers of the protest in front of the Democratic Party headquarters.
Police intervened briefly using tear gas. Supporters of former Prime Minister Berisha dispersed. Police units managed to take control of the PD building, deploying a large number of troops at its main entrance.
There were numerous reactions from the representatives of the international community to the situation. They unanimously condemned the acts of violence, calling on the protest organizers to reject the violence and act calmly.
Police, after calming down the situation, announced that they have declared a “crime scene” the PD building, placing yellow stripes on its premises.
According to her, starting from the outside, to all the interior of the headquarters, the inspection will be done and any evidence of illegality that characterized the violent event will be collected.
