Belgian workers will soon have more choices about how to organize their working hours in line with the post-pandemic labor market.
A government reform package will allow full-time employees to complete their working hours for four days instead of the usual five days.
Employees who request it will be able to work up to 10 hours a day, if the unions agree, instead of a maximum of 8 hours, in order to work one day less per week for the same pay.
More flexibility
Prime Minister Alexander De Croo told a news conference that this would give employees “more flexibility, more freedom”.
De Croo did not specify when these changes will take effect or if there will be exceptions. He stressed that the coronavirus pandemic had forced people to work more flexibly and combine their private and work lives. “It has led to new ways of working.”
