The legal representative of President Ilir Meta, Bledar Dervishaj, invited to Top Story, considered the decree of the new president Bledar Begaj, even though he was in Turkey, for an official visit a constitutional action.
“Meta’s decree is constitutional in its exercise and competencies. I’m surprised by the debate over the head of state’s action. In the face of this fact he had a duty to comment on the proposal. The President made public his position, in order not to delay the procedure, after reviewing the practice he decided to express himself with a decree, he decided either dismissal from duty or active service. The president showed loyalty. It does not matter where the decree is signed, abroad or outside the consulate. The acts enter the office of the head of state and leave the office of state protocol “said Dervishaj.
The signing of Begaj’s dismissal from the post of Chief of General Staff of the Albanian Army by Meta while he was in Turkey caused a debate in the ranks of the opposition, who considered it unconstitutional.
With 78 votes in favor, for the next five years at the head of the state will be former Major General Bajram Begaj, a name proposed by the majority.
His name as a possible candidate for head of state was circulated about four weeks ago, but over the days his name faded while Ardian Dvorani and Majlinda Bregu were considered the most favorable candidates.
Begaj is now expected to be sworn in on July 24, while Ilir Meta will be forced to vacate the chair of the head of state.
