Serious risks are “hidden” after the decision of the Supreme Court that abolishes the right to abortion in the United States of America.
In the panel of “Top Story”, biologist Elena Gjebrea says that even when abortion is illegal, the woman who decided it will do it in unsafe conditions which could endanger her life.
She also brought the case of Albania before the years ’91 when abortion was not allowed, where she said that many women of reproductive age lost their lives as a result of unsafe abortion.
“The Supreme Court seat gives states in the US the right to decide whether or not they want legal abortion. There will be a backlash, which has already begun especially in the south and center of America. In terms of risk, we need to talk in figures. Take examples, Albania before the years 91 abortion was illegal. Half of the deaths of women of reproductive age before 1991 were due to abortion. When abortion is not legal, the woman who wants the abortion will do it in unsafe conditions. This will endanger his life. It is the case of Albania with figures. We need to show what this brings, what impact it has on women and girls. It has to do with many aspects. The more educated the girls, the fewer unwanted pregnancies we will have and consequently fewer abortions“, Said Gjebrea.
The Supreme Court ruled that abortion was not performed automatically in the United States, but states can decide whether to allow it. About 26 states are expected to ban or restrict abortion in the coming weeks. At least seven states within the US, inhabited by 16 million women of childbearing age, have already imposed bans since the Supreme Court repealed the Roe v Ëade law, otherwise known as the ruling that guaranteed abortion for nearly 50 years in the US.
