Thanks to sports, they left Afghanistan in time and took refuge in Albania. They are part of the girls of the Afghanistan National Basketball Team while others are still in the war zone.
The Vllaznia women’s team welcomed them in a friendly match, as the sport not only unites them but also gives them beautiful emotions, helping them get through the difficult period.
“Thank you for giving us the opportunity to play a match and forget for a few minutes the horror of war. Unfortunately it is not the full team as most of the national team girls are back in Afghanistan. The situation there is very bad and the girls are in danger. It is not a question of going out on the streets or training “, said coach Jamshid Akbari.
All the girls are only in Albania as their families are in Afghanistan and persecuted because they played basketball.
“We are lucky to be in Albania and we are continuing our dream here. We are safe because thanks to basketball we escaped but not our families in Afghanistan. I rarely talk to my family in Kabul but the situation there is very difficult. My parents and my brothers are western-minded and open-minded so they are in danger. They are trapped and if they come out they kill them“, Said basketball player Parisa Wahedi.
“I have been part of the national basketball team in Afghanistan for 9 years. It is the first time I play an official match and the first time I hear the national anthem after all this time. I had a lot of emotions and a lot of tears. “We still have many teammates in the war zone,” said basketball player Malalai Anwari.
After the basketball match of the Afghan girls national team with Vllaznia, the national men’s volleyball team also played a friendly with the Shkodra team.
