Democratic Party Chairman Lulzim Basha on Friday commemorated the 16th anniversary of the death of former Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova.
In a brief note on Twitter, Basha writes that Rugova is the symbol of Kosovo’s efforts for independence, adding that he bows with national gratitude to him, the Albanian who led the largest peace movement in modern Europe.
“We bow with deep national gratitude on this anniversary of the separation from life, before the name and eternal work of Ibrahim Rugova, the symbol of Kosovo’s efforts for independence and the Albanian who led the greatest peaceful movement in modern Europe“, Says the leader of the Democrats.
He says that Rugova is the architect of Kosovo’s independence and according to him remains an inspiration for every Albanian who has a sacred national interest.
“His political and intellectual legacy shines as the greatest achievement of a peaceful political movement, embodied today in the independent state of Kosovo.“, Writes Basha.
Ibrahim Rugova passed away on January 21, 2006. His funeral was one of the largest in Albanian history. He was a writer, philosopher and intellectual. Rugova is one of the founders of the Republic of Kosovo and the Democratic League, without which the modern history of Kosovo can not be written. He is the first President of the Republic of Kosovo.
On November 20, 2005, the New York City Council honored the President of Kosovo, Ibrahim Rugova, with a special appreciation for his commitment to affirming the principles of democracy and for his inspiring political leadership.
