The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, this Friday raised the concern for the increase of the oil price in the country.
In a meeting with the Democrats of branch No. 4, in Tirana, Basha says that the level of oil prices in Albania is approximately the same as in Switzerland, where according to him, the basic salary is 16 times higher than in our country.
“Indeed, the price of oil has increased in all international markets, but why is it lower in Kosovo? Why is it lower in Northern Macedonia? Why is it so high in Albania, as it is almost in Switzerland where they receive on average 16 times more per capita income than in Albania? Let’s take them one by one: Who has forgotten Rama’s fuel tax? 200 lekë plus VAT, 240 lekë per liter, is the only tax that he has imposed on oil, on gasoline. And when we go to Parliament and ask him to remove it, he pretends to be confused, he also does the devil’s fool“, He said.
The leader of the Democrats says that the level of poverty in Albania is close to African levels.
Basha blames the government for this, reminding it of its role in protecting the strata most affected by rising oil prices.
“You saw it 3 days ago, the report of Transparency International came out, again the most corrupt government in the Balkans. What does government corruption mean to the common man? That in political jargon means clash between one party and another party. But for the citizens of this country, for the unemployed of this country that are only increasing, for the families of this country, for the entrepreneurs of this country, for the employers, for the employees, for the pensioners, for the youth, for the heads of the families, it means something else . Let’s take it from the last issue, the rise in the price of fuel, the rise in the price of oil“, He declared.
The leader of the Democrats also focused on the level of taxes applied by the Rama government.
“He says, carbon tax, no mor no, no one is saying about the carbon tax. 3 lekë is the carbon tax, this is 24 new lekë. Let’s stop for a moment, there are more than 6 years or 7 years since he put it in January 2014, if I am not mistaken, the first 100 lek and in January 2015, the second 100 lek plus VAT, which receives this money. How do you spend them? What is the role of government when something bad happens to people? Like the pandemic, like the earthquake, like the rise in the price of oil? It is to amortize the negative effects. To soften them, to make people’s lives a little easier. How can I do that? The minister comes out today without any shame, she says the price of oil will increase in the next 6 months“, He said.
Basha stressed that the categories most affected by the price increase are poor Albanian families and pensioners. According to him, these two categories can not even provide the bread of the mouth.
“Half of the families in Albania who do not pay more than one hot meal a day, for themselves and their children. Retirees who can not close 10 days, not a month but did not have support from their children in emigration“, He said.
