This Saturday (December 18) will be held the National Assembly of the Democratic Party, convened by the leader of the Democrats Lulzim Basha.
Basha will gather today at 11:00 in the Palace of Congresses the PD delegates, while they are expected to vote on status changes! Today’s Assembly has as its motto that the DP chooses the future and Albania.
The Democratic Party dismissed from its functions in the National Council and in the chair those of its leaders, who participated in the activities of the former president Sali Berisha, describing them as acts contrary to the statute and the party program itself. Meanwhile, yesterday, Basha appointed 12 new chairmen of the DP branches and the Permanent Statutory Commission was set up. Members of the Statutory Commission are Enklejd Alibeaj, Ervin Salianji, Kreshnik Çollaku, Jonila Godole, Taulant Zeneli and Jorida Tabaku.
The Democratic Party yesterday distributed to the members of the National Assembly a statement, that they gather with the historic responsibility to be united against the regime of Edi Rama.
Tomorrow’s Democratic Party Assembly is being held a week after former President Sali Berisha and his followers held another Assembly, declaring that they have fired the current President Lulzim Basha and his deputies.
This Saturday is expected to be crucial for the two opposing camps within the Democratic Party. We recall that today in all branches of the Democratic Party in the districts will be held a referendum on the dismissal of Basha, a decision issued by the Assembly of Berisha. However, Basha has stated that he does not recognize any decision issued by this Assembly.
Both sides do not recognize each other’s statutes, while the following days are expected to be quite decisive for the fate of the largest opposition party in the country.
The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, was re-elected by an overwhelming majority of votes from the National Assembly, shortly after the April 25th general elections, although the opposition lost for the third time.
The DP is now the only party in the country with two statutes, one submitted by Basha to the Tirana Court a few days ago and the other submitted by the DP Re-establishment Group.
The political battle between Berisha and Basha took place when the latter expelled the former DP leader from the PD Parliamentary Group, after he was declared ‘non grata’ by the US State Department.
