In lot II of the road axis Korça-Ersekë, the physical realization of the works has reached 91%.
The entire route is open, while working in parallel with the construction of retaining walls and drainage system. With the improvement of the weather conditions, in the spring the work for the asphalting of the entire length of the tear is expected to start.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, accompanied by the Director of the Albanian Road Authority, Evis Berberi, closely inspected the progress of the works carried out along the entire length of this lot.
“Progress is visible. The entire 4.15 km route is open. Work is underway on the final layers of stabilizer. Due to the rain it will get a greater stabilization and then in the spring we will continue with the asphalt layers and we will deliver it ready for the new season. We are in a rugged mountainous terrain, we have different geologies, we have had places that we have filled 32 meters and normally all these fillings, have their time to sit down “, said Berberi referring to the works carried out so far now in this segment.
Currently, the road axis Korça-Ersekë has a length of 45 kilometers, while with the completion of the new segment the distance is reduced to 35 kilometers. Likewise, the new axis will have all the necessary elements related to road safety. Its construction will promote the further development of tourism in the southeast of the country by bringing closer two areas with great potential, such as Korça and Erseka.
“This is a very important road of Korça-Erseka, an important area not only in terms of the development of agriculture here, but also many important elements that have as Korça and Erseka. We should not forget that here we have a tourist pole, which has been developed for several years. Erseka is an undiscovered treasure and we during the time we inspect this construction site, for several years now, since the first lot has been completed and is already working on the first part of the second lot, we have managed to see that there is a lot of potential great and this is a project that needs you to move on and finish as soon as possible“, Declared Balluku.
The project also defines the creation of access to villages that this axis describes with the main road. Upon its completion, the distance between Korça and Erseka is reduced to 20 minutes, while the allowed speed is expected to be from 60 to 80 kilometers per hour.
“This has been a difficult axis for both atmospheric conditions and geology, a very complex geology which varies in 10 meters from one location to another. But, in addition to all the technical issues which are properly covered, we have also been careful to adapt this infrastructural work to the surrounding nature and to be very careful. As we said, this is not a work that serves only 2 cities, ie two areas, Korça and Erseka, but it is also a work which has the main purpose to support highly developed tourism in these two areas“, Underlined Balluku.
At the beginning of next year, competition is expected to open for the construction of the last part of this axis to connect it along its entire length.
