Road axes across the country are open to vehicular traffic, despite the difficult weather situation.
Employees of the Albanian Road Authority, as well as road maintenance companies, are on the ground to monitor the situation and to intervene in all areas where problems have been identified.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, accompanied by the director of the Albanian Road Authority, Evis Berberi, were in the Dardha area of Korça district to inspect the measures taken and the work being done to ensure the normal circulation of vehicles.
“We have 41 maintenance contracts, which cover 3650 kilometers of roads. Four contracts are in progress, as they are covered by the World Bank. They are mainly national axes with the largest flow of movement. While we also have 37 contracts distributed in three regions. More than 180 vehicles covering these segments are on standby, as well as more than 200 field workers, distributed in groups, monitoring groups, clearing and heavy vehicle maneuvers. Measures have been taken for the storage of salt as we have deposited over 3600 tons of salt “, Berberi announced, referring to the plan of measures for the management of the winter season.
For the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy so far the situation has been properly managed by making all road axes open to traffic. She asked for the understanding of drivers to respect and obey the instructions of the Traffic Police and ARA during their trip.
“Despite the maintenance we do, which is constant and during this year, so far we have not had any experience of blocked roads. The emergency group in ARA is fully operational. We are all in contact with each other, we make daily reports to check all areas, but on the other hand it must be said that care must definitely be taken by all drivers and what is more important they must definitely meet the conditions, winter tires, chains in all those areas where required. Also, all calls of the Traffic Police and ARA for the weather conditions in different areas of Albania must be respected “, declared Balluku.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy said that in order to guarantee a safer circulation for drivers, work is being done during the night hours, while requesting that all structures be on alert for any situation that may be identified.
“We expect in the coming days to have heavy rainfall and snow, so all ARA groups must be ready to cope with this process as best as possible, without interruption of circulation in all axes of the territory.” , said Balluku.
Traffic caution is required not only in areas where there has been snowfall, but also in those areas where rainfall has been of high intensity. Even in these areas, the road was cleaned without identifying any problems.
