Bajram Begaj’s candidacy for the new head of state has been passed by the Law Commission to be voted in the plenary session of the Assembly.
Alibeaj, Çupi and Bardhi boycotted the meeting, while Bylykbashi, who was present, opposed the candidacy, considering it anti-constitutional.
Thus, the name of Bajram Begaj in the Law Commission was approved only by the votes of the majority, as Erisa Xhixho of the SMI also voted against.
Discussions in the Law Commission:
Majko: Let me thank you for coming. We are talking about a man who has held the post of Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces. Has gone through some difficult filters. Albania is part of NATO. Above his figure I deny that very well known are those which to someone else might have been unknown. We are dealing with a figure that has passed all the filters. Second, to rise to the level of a surprise, the fact that the president had no duty to sign from where he was, unlocking the election of the new president. We are dealing with a personality who has to dispel doubts about his past. We are taking the individual who has been to the headquarters, I invite all colleagues to vote for the candidacy.
Bylykbashi: The president should not have incompatibility. Active military can not run. The candidate is deposited as an active military, at the moment of candidacy the selection process begins. If the candidacy is submitted, the incompatibility has started. So when you sent it, it was incompatible. You had 7 days time in position. Therefore we will vote against.
Bushka: Given that it meets all legal requirements and to bend in the voting session, do you agree to pass it to the Assembly. By a majority of votes, this is approved and forwarded to the voting session.
