Two pneumonias worsened the health condition of former President Bujar Nishani and an autoimmune disease proved fatal for his life.
The friend of the late Nishani tells “Top Story” about the last communication he had with him and the pessimistic information he received from Berlin, where the former head of state was being treated, where he died.
“He went through a complication after two pneumonias, for a short period he was hospitalized in the senatorium, then in one of the best hospitals in Europe, in Berlin. The situation has worsened in recent days. All the service that has been in Germany was for calming the lungs, which had deteriorated. He was later treated for an autoimmune disease, but it turned out to be fatal.
Since the first pneumonia, I have not communicated with him, but I have been in contact with family”.
The member of the Democratic Party leadership recalls the support that Nishani gave her at the end of last year, when she was running for the leadership of the Democratic Party. His attitude that the time of Lulzim Basha had come to an end in the Democratic Party and he should no longer be chairman, encouraged the former President to do a tireless job with a lot of perseverance, despite his health condition, says Harxhi.
“I have been close to him and his family for many years. Everything came back on its own with the support that Nishani gave me to run for the leader of the Democratic Party. Came to cooperate, to help the party. Basha had asked him to return several times, Nishani had been withdrawn, but he came when he thought that we should go out and challenge what was happening in the DP.
I remember that two-week campaign period, which is not even called a campaign. We returned from Saranda on the 30th, and on the 31st we went to Tropoja. For two weeks we did 6,000 km. It was tiring, but he did not stop. He understood that Basha’s time was over, and in addition to the will to support me, his desire to oust Basha increased.”.
According to Harxhi, Nishani wanted Sali Berisha back on the right: “He could not wait for the doctor to return to the helm of the Democratic Party. He thought that Berisha could unite the DP in these moments”.
Bujar Nishani was the first to oppose Lulzim Basha and demand his removal after the April 25 elections. The premature departure from the life of Bujar Nishani saddened not only the people close to him, but also the political opponents inside and outside the Democratic Party.
On Wednesday, June 1, the coffin of the late President Bujar Nishani will be placed in the Skenderbeu Hall of the Presidency, for homage to friends and well-wishers starting at 10:00.
On Thursday, June 2, in the time frame 10: 00-12: 00, homage will be paid according to the ceremonial and state protocol. President Nishani Arkmort will leave the Presidency at 12:00 to address the Sharra cemetery for the funeral ceremony.
