Russia has been the target of sanctions from around the world since the start of the war with Ukraine. Today Australia has confirmed other sanctions against Russia concerning 14 Russian state-owned enterprises, which are of economic and strategic importance to Russia.
Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne said today the final round of sanctions targets transport companies Sevmash and United Shipbuilding Corporation. The sanctions also target electronic components maker Ruselectronics, which produces roughly 80% of all Russian electronic components, and Russian Railways, one of the largest single contributors to the Russian economy.
“Our goal of Russian state-owned enterprises in coordination with key partners undermines their capacity to boost the Russian economy. “By preventing relations with these important sources of revenue for the Russian government, we are increasing pressure on Russia and reducing its ability to continue funding Vladimir Putin’s war.”ha Payne.
Australia is one of a number of countries, including the US, that have consistently imposed sanctions on Russia since the beginning of the occupation of Ukraine.
