The German Interior Ministry says more than 18,000 people have arrived in Germany from Ukraine since the Russian occupation eight days ago.
Maximilian Kall, a spokesman for the German Interior Ministry, told a news conference in Berlin that 18,436 refugees from Ukraine had arrived in Germany. He added that about 15,000 people are Ukrainian citizens and about 3,000 people are non-EU residents.
According to the German Federal Police, most of the refugees are families without men, mostly women and children.
Kall further added that people fleeing the war zone can enter the EU, regardless of whether they are Ukrainian asylum seekers or third-country nationals.
According to the United Nations, more than one million refugees have been forced to flee Ukraine since the start of the Russian offensive.
