Dozens of houses and cars completely burned and hundreds damaged, is the tragic balance of the fire that covered the Pedeli area on the outskirts of Athens during the last hours.
Currently, the fire has been extinguished, but it has left millions of dollars worth of damage behind.
An 84-year-old person ended his life as soon as the flames approached his apartment, while 34 residents of the area were sent to Athens hospitals with burn wounds and breathing problems.
The authorities have called on residents not to return to their homes for a few more hours, while technicians from the electrification company and the water supply company have been sent to the area to fix the damage to the network to restore normality.
The government promised help and support for the residents, while the civil defense announced that it has made several hotels available to accommodate the residents who suffered damage to their homes for free.
The area of Attica continues to be considered a high-risk area due to the high temperatures and strong winds that prevail in this part of the country.
Meanwhile, another fire broke out around 13:30 in the Megara area, in the north-western part of Athens.
At the moment, no damage is reported, but the civil defense informed the residents of the area via sms that they should be ready to leave if necessary.
