Three explosions occurred today near a school west of the Afghan capital Kabul where six people were killed and several students were injured, Afghan safety and health officials announced.
“Three explosions have taken place… in a high school, the victims are several,” said Khalid Zadran, a Taliban spokesman in Kabul.
He later added that six people had been killed and 11 injured in the blasts.
Most of the area belongs to the Shia Hazara Muslim community, which has been attacked by the Sunni majority or the Islamic State.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, which comes after a relative period of calm in the winter months, following the withdrawal of US troops last year.
Afghanistan’s new government says it has deployed security since arriving on vacation in August, but officials say the risk of attacks by other groups remains high.
An internal investigation official said the explosives were hidden in backpacks and exploded inside the school gates.
Several successive administrations have failed to stop attacks in western Kabul, including on mosques or hospitals. An explosion last year in a girl school about 80 people, mostly female students.
