The last few hours have been intense for politics in Great Britain, Boris Johnson is now closer than ever to collapse after 41 resignations that came in a chain after those of the finance and health ministers
More ministers and former allies have withdrawn their support for the British prime minister and are calling on him to resign, but Johnson has resisted, saying he would fight on, at least for now, despite Tory MP Kris Pincher’s latest sex scandal involving Doëning Street is sinking him more and more.
The spectacular unraveling of Johnson’s political career may now be hours away; while Conservative lawmakers are discussing the possibility of redrafting their party’s rules and voting to overturn it if necessary.
By Wednesday evening, a delegation of ministers went to Downing Street to tell him to leave.
Among them was Home Secretary Priti Patel – one of Johnson’s staunchest supporters – as well as his long-time ally and senior cabinet minister Michael Gove, who also urged him on Wednesday afternoon to accept that his time is over, but the answer he got was that he was already fired.
Now Johnons has only two options either to resign by Thursday, or his opponents will move every stone to oust him within the next week at most.
