The appeal of the GJKKO has decided to reject the appeal of the Morina police officers, who were arrested for corruption.
Morina border police officers were arrested for corruption and abuse of office and left in prison, with the decision of the Special Court.
On April 10, the GJKKO confirmed the measure of arrest in prison for 16 police officers, house arrest for 12 others, suspension of duty for 4 officers, and the measure of house arrest for two citizens.
The officers were arrested by order of the special prosecution SPAK on charges of corruption and abuse of office.
SPAK announces that an investigation had been launched against them since November 2020 for Passive Corruption of persons exercising public functions. The investigation identified 312 cases of corruption, smuggling of excise goods, and permitting illegal border crossings.
Police officers have been kept under surveillance for a long period of time during which numerous corruption cases have been ascertained, forcing Albanian and foreign citizens to pay different amounts of money for crossing from Albania to Kosovo and vice versa.
But they also made fictitious registrations for entering and leaving the Albanian territory; as well as assisting other persons who had problems with the law, who were not registered in the TIMS system, as their travel to Kosovo and vice versa was not allowed.
Of the 34 measures executed, 32 belong to the Kukës Border Police officers, including the Director of this Directorate. He is accused of “Abuse of Duty”, Passive Corruption in Cooperation, and Exercising Illegal Influence on Persons Exercising Public Functions.
