Fifteen bullets were fired in a gunfight between a police officer and two people near Lake Badovc.
The off-duty police officer injured two young men with whom he allegedly had a conflict.
On May 1, police officer Shefket Emini was celebrating in the vicinity of Lake Badovc with a group of Serb nationals. The same spaces were frequented that day by a group of young Albanians on motorcycles. It is thought that two of them had a conflict with the police, it is not known by whom and how it started. However there was an exchange of fire between them, the youths fired four times in the direction of the policeman, while the policeman shot 11 times at them, leaving them wounded in the head and back.
Kosovo Police has announced that the two young men initiated the exchange of fire, causing the police officer to shoot in their direction. A few meters away from the scene were also found the firearm with which the suspects had shot at the police officer and the motorcycle with which they left to receive medical treatment. The legal representative of one of the injured wants an investigation to be conducted against the police officer, who according to him was also drunk.
“A person who was not on duty, but in a private party and probably according to our informal information, was also an alcoholic and was given an alcohol test,” said lawyer Asdren Hoxha.
But this conflict took on other dimensions as well. Serbia’s liaison office in Kosovo described it as interethnic, with Albanians attacking Serbs. However, the lawyer denies such a thing.
“This incident or this criminal offense committed by that person against the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo has no interethnic character, has no interethnic character at all,” Hoxha added.
The Police Inspectorate and the Kosovo Police say they are continuing with the investigation.
