The Butrint project was approved with 78 votes in favor this Thursday in the plenary session in the Assembly, after many debates between the opposition and the majority.
Out of 114 deputies, 35 voted against and one abstained.
The draft law “On the approval of the agreement for the administration of cultural heritage sub-zones and cultural landscape, part of Butrint National Park, between the Ministry of Culture and the Butrint Management Foundation” includes the administration of cultural heritage sub-zones by the Albanian-American non-state foundation for development.
In Monday’s assembly it was fiercely debated by the majority and the opposition, while the latter objected.
A protest was held in front of the Assembly to demand the annulment of this draft law.
Butrint’s defense is imperative for every Albanian, said the leader of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha. He said this is one of the most devastating deals for the country’s natural resources.
While Minister Elva Margariti in the Assembly said that the conditions of UNESCO have been met and that this development model will make Butrint internationally known.
