Russian state media has confirmed the death of one of Moscow’s top generals, during fierce fighting in the eastern region of Ukraine, Donbas, reports BBC.
General Roman Kutuzov was killed as he was leading an attack, said a state media reporter, Rossiya 1.
According to him, General Kutuzov has been commanding troops in the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not commented on these reports.
The Ukrainian military has also confirmed the killing of General Kutuzv, without giving further details.
Reports of his death come as news circulated on social media that another Russian general, Roman Berdnikov, had been killed in fighting over the weekend.
Russian commanders are getting involved on the war front as an attempt to advance the invasion.
So far, Moscow has confirmed the deaths of three senior generals.
Kiev claims to have killed 12 generals and Western intelligence officials have said at least seven commanders have been killed.
