A grave with dozens of civilians has been found in the village of Buzova near Kiev, a Ukrainian official said after Russian forces withdrew from areas north of the capital to focus their attack on the east.
Taras Didych, head of the Dmytrivka community that includes Buzova, said the bodies were found in a canal near a gas station. He said the death toll has not yet been confirmed.
But Reuters reports that they still can not confirm the statement. The area in question has been under Russian occupation for weeks as they aimed to lay siege to the capital.
Meanwhile the rising number of civilian casualties has sparked widespread international outrage and new sanctions, especially after the shocking sightings in the city of Bucha, northwest of Kiev.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the use of force by Russia was a catastrophe that would inevitably hit everyone.
In a speech late Saturday, he reiterated his call on Western allies for a full embargo on Russian energy products and more weapons for Ukraine.
