A senior Russian officer is said to have been killed in Ukraine, becoming the latest in a string of eight other high-ranking Russian officers to be executed since the start of the war, 46 days ago.
According to the BBC, Colonel Alexander Bespalov was the commander of the 59th Guard Tank Regiment. It is not known where and how he was killed.
A post, allegedly from Bespalov’s sister, said: “it is impossible to express in words what pain you feel when you lose a loved one“.
On Friday, Ukraine claimed that about 19,000 Russian soldiers had been killed in the fighting. On March 25, Russia set its death toll at 1,351.
