Anadolu Medical Center (John Hopkins USA branch) Turkey, has opened a Representative Office in Tirana.
The office opened on March 3 and on the same day an event was held for medical professionals regarding the promotion of the latest radiation technology in oncology and neurosurgery. Also, hospital officials provided some details about the operation of the hospital for those patients who would like to receive medication in Turkey.
In an interview with www.top-channel.tv, the representatives stated that:
Ms Amel GOYILDAR, REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF INTERNATIONAL SERVICES
ANADOLU HOSPITAL – BRANCH OF JOHNS HOPKINS MEDICINE
Question: Can you tell us a little about Anadolu Hospital Medical Center?
Anadolu Medical Center has two main features: the first is that we are a subsidiary of Johns Hopkins since we first opened in 2005, so from that time until now we have been a subsidiary of John Hopkins.
At the same time we are a non-profit foundation, and belong to the Anadolu Group.
We also have various accreditations. One of the main accreditations is OECI which is the European Organization of Cancer Institutions.
Question: How can Albanian patients communicate with you?
We receive a large number of applications from patients in the Balkan region. One of the countries where we have patients is Albania. The number of patients is increasing and we thought of opening a representative office in Albania, in Tirana.
Our representative Mrs. Merve AKINOGLU will run our office in Tirana.
Patients simply need to bring their medical records in their own language. They will be checked by our doctors in Turkey, and we will send a second approved opinion, we will prepare all the logistics for the patient starting from the hotel reservation, the transport from the airport to the hotel.
From the moment they arrive, we will have Albanian-speaking translators in our hospital, as well as our specialists in their offices who will follow the whole process.
The reason we are opening this office is that it will be many times easier for our patients to contact us and have a direct communication with the people here in Albania.
Prof. Dr. Hale Basak CAGLAR OZKOK
HEAD OF THE RADIO-ONCOLOGY DEPARTMENT
ANADOLU HOSPITAL – BRANCH OF JOHNS HOPKINS MEDICINE
Question: Anadolu Medical Center prides itself on being one of the most innovative hospitals in Turkey. What are the latest innovations in the treatment of tumors?
There has been great progress, cancer treatment recently around the world and our hospital has provided all the new technology once they are published, so in the 21st century most cancer treatment depends on the treatment we adapt. We recognize tumors, but know the patient’s tumor better and immediately tailor treatment to the patient’s specific tumor diagnosis.
How do we treat the tumor? We first define the tumor to then evaluate how we will treat it and based on this information we start treatment where we target drug therapy, immunotherapy and radiotherapy. I head the department of radio-oncology and most recently treatment Cancer with radiotherapy has made a lot of progress.
But unfortunately radiotherapy can not select tumor cells, so we hit the tumor cells by increasing the dose of radiation therapy to benefit as much as possible but at the same time not to have many side effects that come only from radiotherapy that can not identify tumor cells. Technology has been widely implemented in radiotherapy along with engineering technology, imaging technology, biomedical technology as well as artificial intelligence, so there are so many things that have been implemented in radiotherapy. We are performing radiotherapy operating with this technology.
Prof. Dr. Serdar KAHRAMAN
HEAD OF DEPARTMENT OF NEUROSURGY
ANADOLU HOSPITAL – BRANCH OF JOHNS HOPKINS MEDICINE
Question: You are one of the most experienced doctors in neurosurgery. What distinguishes Anadolu Medical Center from other popular hospitals in Turkey and the region?
Our biggest difference is the accreditation of Anadolu Medical Center with Johns Hopkins University and also the treatment of tumors in cooperation with the accreditation with OECI or said during the Cancer Institute for Europe.
This means that the whole process of diagnosing and treating cancer patients is followed in cooperation with the various boards, ie the diagnosis and treatment of the patient is followed step by step according to the joint decision taken by the boards of the relevant departments related to the case.
In addition, especially in neurosurgery and neurooncology one of our biggest differences from other hospitals is the fact that we use surgical rooms equipped with high-tech equipment which we call Hybrid operating rooms.
Inside these rooms, we use a system called Neuromonitoring, which monitors nerve waves and electrical waves sent from the brain to the arms and legs through the spine even during intervention to indicate if we have a neurological problem or defect.
We also use a navigation system called neuro navigation, which allows us to find millimeter-sized, specific areas in the brain or back.
The use of the microscope with fluorescent filters enables us to differentiate normal brain and spinal tissues from malignant tissues (which have tumors in these areas).
We also use neuroendoscopy, a system that allows us to access minimally invasive surgical interventions performed only with cameras on both the back and the brain.
Apart from these, what differentiates us more from other hospitals is having a pathology department thanks to which we can get direct data on the degree of cancer in the carcinogenic tissue during the intervention.
For these reasons, our main advantage is to create as few complications as possible for the patients treated in our hybrid intervention rooms, ensuring faster and safer results.
