Inability to get a job, poor supply and low financial motivation or underestimation of professions are among the main reasons for the final departure of young people from Gjirokastra.
The trend was very evident during a “Work & Study” fair held in the city for graduates.

“I am here to find out more about Albanian universities. I like chemistry and biology more so I want to apply for a university related to these branches of nursing, medicine, biotechnology. I would return to Gjirokastra if I had a job so I could manage my life. ”
“I think I should leave for school. “I’m hesitant to return because there are no jobs, no adjustments.”
Local statistics show a significant decrease in the number of students starting from primary education.
“There has been a low number of teachers employed for this year due to the decline in the number of students,” says Albana Hasanaj from the Education Office.
Education specialists at the local level call for this flow of human capacity to be taken seriously as it will cost them dearly throughout the region.
“The cream of the nation, the best graduates and students become a ready-made product for other countries. When a country has no respect for its resources, what do we offer to the younger generation? We simply tell him to strongly embrace a party to take a seat in the administration. “If a graduate has 70 people, 1-2 or none can be returned”, says teacher Zeman Tena.
80% of the 370 graduates who will leave this year from high schools in Gjirokastra are preparing to be educated outside the city in Tirana but also abroad.
