On the second day of the G7 summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to ask leaders to address him with more heavy weapons.
Zelensky’s speech at the G7 comes at a time when several rocket attacks have hit Kiev, and other areas over the weekend, of which at least one person has been left dead.
The war in Ukraine is at the top of the G7 agenda, and the participating countries are expected to pledge more military support for Kiev, as well as more sanctions for Moscow.
Western leaders are trying to show a united front, with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz saying the Russian missile strikes show “it was the right decision to unite and support the Ukrainians.”
US President Joe Biden has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin thought that NATO and the G7 would split, “but this has not happened and will not happen.”
Following the G7 Summit, this time in Bavaria, NATO leaders will then meet in Spain. Zelensky is also expected to deliver a speech there.
