Koçi Selamaj hit Sabina Nessa to death with a road traffic sign, in a “sexually motivated sadistic” murder, the British media wrote today about the conclusions of the investigation that shocked London last year.
The 28-year-old British teacher was found in the trap of the stranger Selamaj while going to a bar in south-east London to meet a friend.
Koci Selamaj had been waiting since he came from his home in the eastern town of Eastbourne, and attacked the unknown young woman with “extreme violence”.
Shocking security camera footage showed the monster checking to see if it had been seen by anyone else, before running after Sabina, terrified on September 17 last year.
The killer had reached him and barbarically hit him 34 times with a metal gun about 60 cm long, which is believed to be a road traffic sign.
He was then filmed transporting his “prey” in the dark.
The Albanian citizen is believed to have strangled him in the tree area, in a sexually motivated attack, investigators said.
Officials said that two hours before the attack, he had contacted an ex-partner to pressure her for sexual activity.
Sabina’s body was found a day later by a dog walker in the area, about 150 meters from the victim’s house.
Selamaj, 36, admitted in court today the murder of Sabina.
He was arrested at his home in Eastbourne a few days after the brutal murder.
The court was told that Selamaj, who was married at the time of the crime, three days before Sabina’s murder was seen by cameras in the murder area, 30 minutes before Sabina passed without knowing what awaited him.
Prosecutor Alison Morgan said: “The accused is seen behaving around the park before spotting the victim, while checking that no one else is nearby, before starting to chase.”
“He is then seen approaching the victim and constantly hitting him with a metal weapon. “And in fact the tool with which he hit him seems to be broken by multiple blows.”
“The accused then transports the unconscious victim to an area out of sight.”
About ten minutes later Selamaj had reappeared only collecting the pieces of the broken murder tool, before cleaning a bench by wiping it with wet wipes.
After the arrest, Selamaj initially did not admit to killing Nessa, but later admitted that it was the person on the security cameras who hit her.
Speaking out of court today, Sabina’s sister, the tearful Jebina Islam, said she could not swallow the case, despite admitting guilt.
Jebina said: “We as a family are devastated, there is not a day that I do not think about it. “There are no words to describe the terrible pain he has caused.”
“The fact that we will never know the motive for our sister’s murder is shocking. “Our days are not getting any easier.”
Hundreds of people gathered with lighted candles at the scene paying homage.
Prosecutor Helen Ellwood added: “Sabina Nessa was 28 years old when her life was cut short as a result of the violent violence she suffered while walking in a park.”
“Koci Selamaj did not show remorse for the premeditated predatory attack on a girl who walked alone, and whom he did not know.”
“His cowardly actions have destroyed a family and caused immense pain to those who knew Sabine.”
The sentence for Selamaj will be given on April 7.
