Albania’s permanent envoy to the United Nations, Ferit Hoxha, has stated that Albania unconditionally supports Ukraine, after the Russian aggression on the night of February 24.
“We call on Russia to stop and reflect immediately. Their mission as a great country in the world, is to maintain peace and not to disturb it”.
With these words, Hoxha stressed that it is unacceptable for Russia to attack neighboring countries in such a way and seek their occupation.
“Every development unfolding in the last 48 hours confirms, for us and for the world, that Russian concerns have nothing to do with its security; that its anxieties are not linked to NATO enlargement and that this issue is not a confrontation between Russia and the West“, He said.
According to him, this is a confrontation between Russia and International Law, the UN Charter, which it has deliberately chosen to ignore; a confrontation between his hegemonic vision and a rule-based world order.
In his speech, he stressed that today Ukrainians are facing another attack, just because they dare to exist, because they have chosen to be independent, because they have chosen democracy.
“This is a dark hour not only for Ukraine, but for the entire international community, as we thrill witness the progress of a clean act of aggression carefully planned and executed calmly.“, He said.
In his speech to the Security Council, Hoxha stressed that we are reiterating the same call for Russia to stop, to reflect, to change its illegal decisions to withdraw from this senseless madness and to stop the attack. He said several mechanisms have been put in place and various proposals have been made, including President Zelensky, whose calls remain unanswered.
“Diplomacy is like hope: it dies last. But for it to work, it must be used and not ignored, as the Secretary-General called it here. We call on the members of the Security Council to assemble in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Russia has been repeatedly warned that it will be alone in this folly; who will be responsible for the lost lives of the innocent, including the Russians, even for the devastation caused in the heart of Europe in the 21st century“, Said Hoxha.
According to him, if they choose to continue to implement their plans, as everything shows, Russia will bear not only the consequences of the war, but also the historical guilt and shame of invading a neighboring country.
