In the annual Happiness Report in the World, it turns out that Albanians are among the happiest people.
Albania was ranked 90th out of 146 countries, and last in the region. This report assesses the populations of nations on Gross Domestic Product, social support, longevity, freedom to make choices in life, generosity and perception of corruption.
The citizens of Kosovo were happy enough, ranking 32nd alongside EU member states such as Italy, Spain and Malta. The happiest country in the world turned out to be Finland. The last was Afghanistan and some African countries like Zimbabwe and Rwanda.
Marsida Simo, Sociologist: Decomposing the study a bit, in the sample that has been undertaken there are around 1000 people. Of course it has its margin of error, but also to be asked more or less, all of us as citizens of this country know very well that we face daily corruption, which was one of the indicators of this study. Also the health service leaves much to be desired. Young people are seeing escape as the only option. The number of people who are dissatisfied and have a lack of trust in institutions and politics is declining. This was also seen in the last by-elections in 6 municipalities.
Kosovo is ranked 32nd as a still young country with new hopes. Referring to the Governor of the Central Bank of Kosovo who said that 2021 was a very good financial year where remittances were 20% higher. Even in Albania in 2021, probably due to the pandemic, remittances from emigrants were numerous, but they no longer approached Kosovo, because it had doubled.
Citizens: Aren’t we 100? How can we be happy when most are unemployed. Youth are fleeing. Are you happy if you are poor? Kosovars are happier and the fact that they are returning to their country reinforces this. We missed the smile that great expensive.
