From today, for the first time in history, Albania becomes a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
Our country received over two-thirds of the vote on June 11 for a two-year term, after 65 years of membership.
The Security Council has 15 members, of which the USA, the United Kingdom, France, Russia and China are 5 permanent members, while the other 10 member countries, one of which is now Albania, have a two-year term.
Foreign Minister Olta Xhaçka said that the main priority of the mandate will be lobbying for Kosovo:
“This is an achievement that every Albanian everywhere in the world should be proud of. Starting from our brothers and sisters in Kosovo because undoubtedly Albania will use this opportunity to advance the cause of Kosovo, the process of recognition and membership in international organizations because Kosovo has been, is and will be a sacred cause for Albania. We will work for the Albanians, but we will also work for our region to consolidate the achievements of the last decades and not to let it slide towards the destabilization of tensions “.
A message of congratulations for this achievement has also come from the USA, which say that they can not wait to cooperate with Albania regarding the most urgent challenges that the world is facing.
