Even in April, foreign trade continued to grow compared to a year ago. Exports increased by 46% on an annual basis, while imports by 23%.
The main groups that influenced the growth of exports were minerals, fuels, construction materials and textiles. The same groups increased imports in the country, but the main factor is the increased prices of products, as by weight the amount of imported and exported goods is lower or equal compared to a year ago.
What stands out is that Albania has drastically reduced trade with Russia, from ALL 1.57 billion in goods, to ALL 278 million in April this year. On the other hand, with Ukraine our country has reduced imports, but has increased exports, almost doubling them in value. Ukraine is a consumer of fruits and vegetables Made in Albania.
Another fact that stands out from the April figures is that in terms of wheat our country has received 9 thousand tons less from Russia, but this is fully offset by Serbia, from where we imported 10 thousand tons more, which has bring and increase in value.
For food, our country has increased the amount of imports from other countries where France, Bulgaria and Poland stand out.
In terms of fuel, our country has reduced the minimum import of oil with Russia, from 22 thousand tons received in April a year ago, to 1 thousand tons, while it is supplied more by countries such as Algeria, Israel, Turkey and which stands out is Colombia, from where we received 3 thousand tons more fuel in April this year.
Meanwhile, the sector that is emerging with the best performance in exports is that of Textiles. With Italy we have increased exports by about 3 billion ALL, while tailors have also found new markets for their goods such as the US, South Korea, Canada, Morocco and Portugal.
In April 2022, the countries with which Albania has had the largest increase in exports, compared to April 2021 are: Italy Germany and Greece. While the countries with which imports have had the largest increase are: Turkey with strong growth, Greece and Italy. With EU countries we continue to have 61% of the volume of foreign trade.
