Albania is advancing its political commitment to support Sweden and Finland’s membership in NATO, through a decision taken at the government meeting this Thursday.
“We approved in principle the NATO accession protocols for Finland and Sweden. “So, we officially gave our consent for the expansion of the Alliance and the inclusion in it of these two countries”, said Foreign Minister Olta Xhaçka.

“These protocols will then be passed for ratification in the Assembly and when this ratification procedure is completed in the parliaments of the 30 NATO member states, but also by the parliaments of Finland and Sweden, their de jure acceptance will be possible. in the North Atlantic Treaty. “The final step, before the two countries officially become members of NATO, is to deposit the instrument of membership with the Government of the United States of America in the capacity of the deposing state of this treaty.”
The Albanian government’s decision comes at a time when Sweden and Finland’s NATO membership is being jeopardized by a Turkish veto which says the two northern European countries have become havens for supporters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and Syrian Kurds.
Meanwhile, internal divergences between the Croatian president and prime minister have also created a stalemate in Croatia in not giving the green light at the moment, to the request of Finland and Sweden to join the Euro-Atlantic alliance.
