Today, the agreement for the Electromechanical rehabilitation of HPP Fierza was signed.
This project envisages the intervention in the turbines 1 and 3 of HPP Fierzë as well as the complete rehabilitation of the generators of the four turbines in this HPP.
This intervention will strengthen the management and operational capacities of KESH, especially in relation to its future role as an energy provider in the liberalized Albanian energy market and in the region.
The EU Ambassador to Tirana, Luigi Soreca, was also present at this event, expressing the EU support for this important project.
“It is a very important activity and the EU is very pleased to support Albania with this EU grant, with 8.35 million euros for this major investment. Rehabilitation of this hydropower plant is a project of strategic importance for Albania and the Region. It is one of the model projects supported by the EU as part of the economic investment plan for the Western Balkans. The Fierza hydropower plant is vital for Albania and means it will provide energy supply to more than 200,000 households from a renewable energy source.
This is a contribution to increase energy security for Albania and reduce Albania’s dependence on foreign production. The energy crisis and international prices that have gone higher than they have been, this is an important step. We want to see how Albania can move on to other aspects! “Macedonia’s connection with Albania with another grant of 14 million euros and also with our German friends”, said the ambassador.
