The current President of the Republic of Albania, Ilir Meta, has congratulated his newly elected successor, Bajram Begaj.
Through a short greeting on the social network “Facebook”, Meta writes: Congratulations to the President elected today by the Albanian Parliament, Mr. Bajram Begaj!
This morning, Meta did not hesitate to sign the dismissal of the Chief of General Staff, Bajram Begaj, thus paving the way for the candidacy to be the new head of state. Meta signed from Istanbul, where he is on an official visit, the decree on the dismissal of the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania, as well as the release from service in the Armed Forces of Major General Bajram Begaj.
Bajram Begaj was elected this Saturday as President of the Republic of Albania with 78 votes in favor, 4 against and 1 abstention. Former Chief of General Staff Bajram Begaj, whose name came out of the SP, will be the successor of Ilir Meta and will remain at the helm of the state for the next five years.
