Prime Minister Edi Rama, this Friday during a conversation with citizens in Berat, also spoke about Albania’s integration into the European Union.
Rama stated that Albania has performed its duties and added that the elections in the Netherlands will have a great impact, a country that is skeptical of Albania.
According to Rama, it is up to the EU countries to make a decision on the opening of negotiations. He announced that in a few days there will be a meeting with officials in Brussels, where this issue will be discussed.
“The integration process has two factors, Albania and the EU. The European Union is a community of states that are important factors in this process. Based on the decision taken by the European Council, the opening of negotiations has taken place. But the opening of negotiations formally is the approval of all states. Here we are at a stage where we have actually seen that the internal dynamics of the EU and the internal troubles of a country, the elections of a country affect. I have said that without the elections in the Netherlands, we will hear a lot, but the conference will not happen. It has affected and many pandemics, has put an agenda in the middle. I will be in Brussels for a few days, I will have a conversation. We have done our homework. So it is very clear. It is not a process that goes technically, it depends not only on us, but on many other components. We do ours, for a simple reason. We do not make the Netherlands appreciate us, we do them because they are the right things for our country. Justice reform is not done because Americans or Europeans want it. They love it, of course, but we do not do it because they love it, we do it because Albanians need it, these young people need it, those who are very young. So in all directions. Any EU-related reform is without question in the best interest of our country. “The job is to raise Europe here and make Albania a state that acts as a European state”, said the Prime Minister.
