5004 delegates called by Lulzim Basha on Saturday attended the National Assembly on December 18 in the hall of the Palace of Congresses, reaching a quorum of 65% percent.
After 48 hours, the General Secretary of the Democratic Party Gazment Bardhi has come out to publish the names of all the delegates who joined the Assembly on December 18. He first read the names of the members of the National Council, to be followed by the names of the delegates.
In his speech, Bardhi stressed that although it was not a standard or tradition of this party to publish the names of participants in the Assembly, today for the sake of transparency it was decided to do so.
“I will initially dwell only on the list of members of the National Council who have been present at the meeting. Then, as the process of reading all the names will take a long time, I will pass the question to the media representatives who are in this room, to get clarifications on issues that may be of interest to them and public opinion and then, I would ask for the patience of each of the media to broadcast live the names that will be read by the Secretary for Public Relations, Mrs. Greta Bardeli“, He said.
According to him, the public opinion during this period is filled with false news, fabrications and misinformation which are mainly done to cover the main reason for the mess created in the DP.
The General Secretary of the Democratic Party accused Sali Berisha of manipulating the names of the delegates in the Assembly of December 11, emphasizing that he has received candidates from the party of Jozefina Topalli and the SMI to fill in the numbers.
“What I remember, and which unfortunately was forgotten the day the signatures were closed in Paloka’s safe, was that the names would be read in the Assembly and a presentation would be made with the presence of each participant in the December 11 rally. This did not happen, but it happened for the first time in 31 years that journalists who were kicked out were not allowed“, Said Bardhi.
At the press conference, Bardhi published a video of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, who promised that the journalists would receive the lists of delegates the day after December 11th.
He also broadcast the testimony of a journalist who stated that they were not allowed to enter the stadium to make transparency.
For him, journalists found it extremely difficult to verify whether the delegates were Democrats, Socialists or chairmen of the SMI branches. In connection with this argument, Bardhi took a case, noting that the chairman of the SMI in the Divjaka branch and with the membership card of ’92 went to determine the chairman of the DP on December 11.
He stressed that not everyone who holds a party test has the right to vote.
“If from 2005 onwards he has been part of the SMI and does not vote for the DP, the person automatically loses the right to be part of the DP. According to the statute you must participate regularly for at least the last six months, if you do not do so, you do not have the right to vote“, Said Bardhi.
However, in this press conference, the journalists insisted on getting an answer from the General Secretary of the Democratic Party where the 5004 delegates were, as according to them, the meeting room in the Palace of Congresses has about two thousand chairs.
To such a question, Bardhi decided to answer initially with ironic tones, emphasizing that the Democratic Party delegates had not had the opportunity to place a GPS to then proceed with the explanation of the question.
“Each member of the National Assembly who appeared in the hall was registered in the commission and the number of participants in the meeting is the number of members who are registered. Votes are counted by open ballot, whoever is against declares. Delegates attending the meeting are registered, they have been located in all premises of the Palace of Congresses and not only in the meeting room“, He said.
The General Secretary of the Democratic Party, among other things, underlined that the National Assembly convened on Saturday at the Palace of Congresses has approved a resolution of the National Council of this party, qualifies the December 11 Assembly meeting convened by former Prime Minister Sali Berisha as “illegal”. According to the resolution, the decisions are null and void and have no political or legal value for the DP.
The resolution states that the Berisha movement resembles an anti-American-inspired political organization.
“DP strongly distances itself and condemns such movements that contradict its identity determinations, the interests of Democrats and all Albanians, the vital strategic relations of Albania and the Albanian Nation with the USA“, It is said among other things in the resolution.
The December 11 assembly dismissed Lulzim Basha as party chairman with 4,446 votes. They decided that on December 18, a referendum be held for the legitimate dismissal of Lulzim Basha, in order to follow the same principle “one member, one vote”.
43 thousand 879 members of the Democratic Party responded to the referendum, out of which 43 thousand 385 voted in favor of dismissing Basha. Through these figures, Berisha claims that Basha received the punishment from the PD membership.
Regarding the referendum, Bardhi stressed that, “there is no data on who voted and how he voted”.
“On December 18, there was only one political activity of the DP, the National Assembly. Others are private activities, making their own lists, according to their desire“, Added Bardhi.
The “disruption” of the Democrats began after Basha’s decision to expel Berisha from the PD parliamentary group. The decision of the leader of the Democrats came after the US State Department declared Berisha and his family as non-women.
