General Executive Director of AFSA, meeting with the Albanian Banking Association
The General Executive Director of the Financial Supervision Authority, Mr. Ervin Mete was present at the end-of-year reception of the Albanian Banking Association (AAB). In his speech, Mr. Mete stressed that the year 2021 further consolidated the cooperation between the Financial Supervision Authority and commercial banks as important actors in the capital markets and investment funds and private pensions, but also in the insurance sector.
The Chief Executive Officer stressed that the new laws in the capital markets and investment funds have diversified the investment and interconnection spaces in the financial markets. Also, during this year, banks have undergone legal and regulatory changes regarding eligibility, as well as the expansion of their activity, through the provision of new investment services.
Improving the legal framework by increasing the requirements for transparency and strengthening the supervisory and regulatory role has been among the objectives of the Authority. This aims to increase confidence in market mechanisms, as an essential element that promotes investor participation, using the new dimensions provided by law, said Mr. With him.
Commercial banks play an important role in the financial markets supervised by AFSA, as they own most of the investment fund management companies and private pensions, as well as serve as their Depositors. Banks also provide services in the field of insurance, mainly in the role of broker.
