A personal glass of German Nazi leader Hitler is expected to sell for at least $13,000 at an auction in Germany.
The pint glass inscribed with the Nazi leader’s initials, with a broken eagle and cross above it, is reported to come from the bar where he launched the initial failed coup in 1923.
The facility was first brought to German attention by the Burgerbraukeller bar in Munich.
Hitler was then sentenced to five years in prison but served only nine months, during which he wrote his Nazi manifesto Mein Kampf.
After taking power in 1933, the dictator marked each anniversary of the failed coup in his bar with a speech to the ‘Alte Kampfer’ (Old Warriors).
German bars have a tradition of keeping on their shelves glasses of famous, or in this case, infamous for some, leaders.
The glass is believed to have been hidden in the building during World War II to prevent it from being stolen by Allied Forces or citizens.
It was reportedly discovered after the brewery was bought by a beverage company in 1957 after the departure of American troops.
Auctioneer Bill Panagopoulos said: “Many objects from Hitler’s table have come to light over the years, but perhaps none as evocative as his personal beer glass, which appears to be in excellent condition.”
The object will be sold at a war memorabilia auction on July 28 at Alexander Historical Auctions in Maryland, USA.
It also includes Hitler’s gold watch that could fetch $4 million, as well as a signed message from him that could fetch $100,000.
