A teenager whom doctors had only given a few months to live, used his remaining time in the world to raise funds for a six-year-old from his hometown who also had cancer but hoped to defeat the disease.
19-year-old Rhys Langford, who was suffering from bone cancer, started raising funds for six-year-old Jacob Jones when he was told he himself would have no cure for the disease.
Jacob was diagnosed with neuroblastoma and stayed cured for a year, before the tumors reappeared earlier in the month.
Although he had never known the teenager, Rhys was deeply moved by his situation and donated 1,000 1,000 of his savings to set up a voluntary fundraising network for the little one to be treated in America.
He has now set up an online fundraising group totaling 8 8,000 for Jacob.
Rhys’s mother, Catherine, said: “Rhys learned the story of little Jacob. “He called me up and was crying in bed when he read about his illness.”
“He told me: ‘Mama I want to donate some funds for her, she is six years old and has been ill since she was two years old. “I would be very happy if I could save him.”
“I could not believe he was thinking of someone else when he was close to death.”
Rhys and Jacob are from the town of Ebbow Vale in Wales, but do not know each other.
Catherine says her son privately sent Jacob 1,000 1,000 of his savings but wanted to do more so he set up an online donation site.
The woman says: “Our heart was broken because they were losing our son, but it was also bursting with pride because despite his diagnosis he thought to save others.”
In the message left on the page, Rhys wrote: “When I read about Jacob and his fight, the resumption of cancer named me very much. “I know that nothing can be done for me, but as one of my last wishes, I want to help Jacob and help him fight serious illness.”
“I know what treatments and treatments for this disease do to your body. “Jacob is now six years old and he has fought the disease all this time, that is not fair.”
Before he fell ill, Rhys was an active young man and had won the Black Belt in martial arts ‘Krav Maga’.
But in the last 16 months he has undergone severe treatments for osteosarcoma tumor.
The former employee has undergone bone and hip muscle surgeries as well as chemotherapy.
But this month he was told your condition was incurable.
