Flash floods in Iran’s southern Fars province have killed at least 21 people after heavy rains, state media reported on July 23.
Flooding hit several towns and villages near the city of Estahban, where torrential rains raised the level of the Roudbal River, a local official said.
According to the city’s governor, Yousef Karegar, rescue teams managed to save 55 people who were trapped by the flash floods, but at least six people are still missing.
Iran has faced repeated droughts over the past decade, but also regular floods.
In 2019, major floods in the south of the country killed at least 76 people and caused damage estimated at more than 2 billion dollars.
In Fars province, a flash flood killed 44 people in March 2018.
