Montenegrin Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic said in an interview with DW that he supports the Open Balkan initiative, as he sees it as a means to integrate more quickly into the EU.
“For me, this situation is simple and should not be dramatized. Anything that can be used as a tool for rapid EU integration is a good thing. For anything else that can be seen as a substitute for European integration, we are not interested. So, everything that helps us to enter the EU faster, as a region or as a country, is ok for us. “
Abazovic clarified that he does not mark the Open Balkans, as a process, against the concept of the Berlin Process.
“These are in line with each other. The problem is that people in the Western Balkans try to dramatize every issue. The Berlin Process, CEFTA, the “Open Balkans” or any other initiative have as a common message regional cooperation. The name is irrelevant. What do we need? We need more trust, better communication, joint projects, more cooperation between countries and governments. “We need less tension, depolarization of the region, and for that we need to trust each other and not see any proposal coming from across the border as something hostile.”
Prime Minister Abazovic said that with the assumption of this post, the two priorities of his government are the rule of law and the economic development of the country, while adding that the best way to fight the negative influence, not only from Russia, is membership as soon as possible. in the European Union.
