The pre-election coalition, “New Beginning”, of the Democratic Party and the Albanian Alternative as well as three other parties, among them the Civic Movement “URA” of the mandate for the formation of the new government of Montenegro, Dritan Abazovic triumphed in local elections in Ulcinj.
Preliminary results show that he has secured 15 seats in the 33-seat regional assembly. Abazovic and his followers celebrated in the streets shouting in Albanian: Victory!

On the other hand, the coalition of two Albanian political forces, the Democratic Union of Albanians and the Democratic League, won 5 seats, the New Democratic Force, which came out alone in this election won 5 seats, the coalition of the Democratic Socialist Party of President Milo Djukanovic with the Bosniak Party, 5 seats and the party of the Montenegrin political spectrum, the Democrats, won 2 seats.
A total of 5 voter lists participated in Sunday’s elections in the Albanian-majority municipality of Ulcinj. Over 20 thousand inhabitants had the right to vote in this municipality; turnout is estimated at 55 percent. Local officials and election observers stated that the process was generally smooth and that there were no significant irregularities or procedural violations. There were also local elections in the northern city of Berane, where turnout was highest at 70 percent.
The fighting there was fiercer between President Milo Djukanovic’s Democratic Socialist Party and pro-Serb and pro-Russian parties, which have sought to retain power in the municipality. Preliminary results show that the coalition gathered around the Democratic Party of Socialists won more votes and will have 9 seats in the new Assembly of Berane, while the Serbian People’s Party was moved to second place.
