“We are fighting like hell, and if you do not fight, you will not enjoy your country,” the former US president said at a Jan. 6 protest in Washington.
Donald Trump’s words to protesters on the Jan. 6 march were today the basis for launching Congressional proceedings against his aide Mark Meadows.
The latter has refused to testify before the Congressional committee investigating the attack on protesters at the Capitol building.
While Trump himself says there is nothing to hide from the Congressional committee.
“There is nothing to hide, if you look at my words back then, you realize they were very reassuring,” Trump said in an interview with FoxNews.
At the time, Trump was reiterating claims that the 2020 presidential election had been stolen, so he urged supporters to march on the Capitol.
Among other things, he said: “Our greatest achievements are still waiting for us. “One of the achievements will be the security of the elections, because until I came, no one had any idea how corrupt they were.”
“People came to vote, thanked and returned safely to their homes.”
“But I say that there is something very wrong here, something that should not happen, so we have to fight. “We have to fight because otherwise we will no longer have our country.”
