Most of Greece is experiencing the worst day of the year, due to a weather wave with heavy rain, storms and snowfall in mountainous areas.
Bad weather initially hit the western areas on the border with Albania and the islands of the Ionian Sea where floods were recorded, and then this wave has included the Peloponnese and the entire suburbs of Athens.
In the part of mainland Greece, the river Aheronta has overflowed in many places, causing floods, while the bridges in the area of Skandalo or in the small Gothic of Ioannina have collapsed.
In the sea area of the island of Corfu the wind power has gone to 12 points, while in the island of Zakynthos there have been in many villages and roads floods and landslides.
Since yesterday evening, the Civil Defense Authority has sent urgent warning messages to the residents of these areas, but also of the southern part of Athens for extreme atmospheric phenomena.
Due to the bad weather, problems have been caused in the power supply of the southern suburbs of Athens, as strong winds of up to 9 have broken the cables of the high voltage poles.
Meanwhile, snowfalls were recorded in the mountainous areas near Ioannina as well as in Florina, Kostur and Kozan.
Heavy rains are forecast for the following hours, while the bad weather will include, in addition to the main part of mainland Greece, the areas of the provinces of Central, Eastern Macedonia, Thrace and the islands of the northeastern Aegean.
