Philip Sharp died at the age of 60 in 2019 under mysterious circumstances after appearing many times on British television where he defended and promoted his polygamous lifestyle.
The well-known rabbi of Jewish descent had seven wives and 19 children, whom he believed were part of “God’s divine plan.”
Philip Sharp said that God had spoken to him directly recommending polygamy.
Prior to his death the man had become famous from appearances in several television documentaries about his unusual lifestyle as a ‘poly-amorous’ religious leader.
He was born in London and died on October 28, 2019, in Nairobi, Kenya, where he had been working for a religious charity mission for two years.
From his lifestyle in 1993 he was revoked the rabbi’s order, although he continued his activity as a religious leader.
“Philip and His Seven Wives,” was a network documentary BBC published in 2006, detailing the dynamics of his large family.
Until 2013, Sharp was married to a woman – Hadas – but also lived with at least six other women for a decade, having children with them.
The other British television network Channel 5 later published another documentary, The Girl with Seven Mothers, which described Sharp’s relationship with his 10-year-old daughter Ellie and the unusual way she grew up in the family.
The polygamist rabbi also appeared on the program ’60 Minutes Australia in 2013 ‘, where he told other details about how God had spoken to him, and where he compared his life with that of the ancient kings.
He said: “I have heard God speak to me several times, I am a spiritual man.”
“It was not very impressive what he told me, but the way God told me, he spoke to me as if I were a king, that’s the only way I can describe him.”
“So it seemed like a must for me.”
Sharpe also discussed the effect of his lifestyle on children, saying that most Western laws are based on the Bible, which was also written by polygamists.
“That’s why it can not be such a bad thing,” he said.
In 2018 he indicated that he had only five wives left as two of them and several children had left the family.
His death in 2019 continues to surprise and investigations have not yet revealed what happened.
In court it was said that Sharp was found by an unconscious relative in the bathroom.
The Hertfordshire court in Britain said Sharp had gone to the toilet in Kenya but after some time did not return and a relative went to check.
The official cause of death was written as respiratory failure from suspected organ-phosphate poisoning, but the forensic pathologist said evidence from Kenya was limited.
