From the first visit to Tirana of the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Eurasian Affairs Gabriel Escobar, the unwavering position of the US towards the declared ‘non grata’ Sali Berisha was reiterated.
While support for Lulzim Basha was articulated by Escobar in the form of an invitation for the DP chairman to visit Washington.
This was what Gabriel Escobar wanted to share with the public, but Top Channel was able to learn the context of the conversation in the meeting with Lulzim Basha.
Escobar is quoted as saying that “the list of ‘non ngrata’ persons for Albania will be expanded and that DASH will work with Albanian institutions in identifying businessmen benefiting from cooperation with corrupt politicians.
Regarding the file of Sali Berisha that led him to obtain the status of Non-grata Escobar, he said that “it is absurd to think that it bears the authorship of Soros.
“It is a dossier that started to form from the past American administration and moved forward from today to today“, Stressed Escobar.
According to the DASH official, “no one in the position of Mr. Berisha in the past has been able to further advance their agendas.”
In this meeting, Gabriel Escobar emphasized the importance that DASH gives to the new leaders in the Balkans and for this he brought the example of Albin Kurti who managed to defeat the old establishment in Kosovo.
After the meeting with Gabriel Escobar, Lulzim Basha repeated several times the importance that the fight against corruption takes for the DP and admitted that Sali Berisha was also part of the conversation with Escobar.
Gabriel Escobar’s statements are a clear support for Lulzim Basha but not enough to change the course taken by Sali Berisha. However, the strong sanctions of the US Treasury Department for some Serbs in Northern Kosovo, are an alarm bell not only for Mr. Berisha but also for some businessmen financing his movement to take over the leadership of the DP.
