A supermarket chain in Germany began selling coronavirus tests on its own on Saturday, but within hours, many stores reported that supplies were out of stock.
The supermarket offered the tests for purchase directly at the checkout, with a customer being allowed to purchase a package containing five tests. Many stores reported that they had run out of supplies in the morning, although the new supply of tests costing 25 euros had been launched. While other supermarket chains have chosen to sell the tests online, through their online platforms, but even there, everything was booked.
On February 24, the federal institute for medicine and medical devices gave the first approvals for anti-covid tests that can be done at home. Quick self-tests have a huge advantage. They can be easily made at home, without the need for a specialist. No other laboratory equipment is needed either.
The principle is similar to that of a pregnancy test; after 15 or 20 minutes, the test lines indicate whether the person is positive or negative. However, self-tests are not as reliable as PCR, which is analyzed in the laboratory. If the result of an antigen test is positive, the Robert Koch institute requires that the person be isolated immediately and contact his or her physician for a PCR test.
